Description:

This document is provided to software developers for the purpose of obtaining and understanding the format and algorithm of the Australian business number (ABN).

Highlights of the service are:

  • The automatic validation of ABN and goods and service tax (GST) registration details through an ABN lookup function linking directly to the Australian Business Register (ABR) can be built into accounting software programs.
  • Time saving for small business ensuring their suppliers have active ABN’s and are registered for GST. This makes their GST claim on their business activity statement (BAS)  more accurate as there are adverse GST credit implications for small businesses if suppliers are not registered for GST.
  • It provides an opportunity for business operators to remain in their software or natural business system while accessing the ABR register to check supplier details.
  • This is a value added service that is being made available using the ABR.

For further information refer to the Super Fund Lookup Web services.
