The Modernisation of Trust Administration Systems (MTAS) project is an ATO initiative aimed at improving the integrity of the tax system through improving the end-to-end trust experience for clients.

This meeting was held via Webinar on Thursday 20 July 2023.

At this meeting, discussion points were:

MTAS background and overview

An overview and background of the budget measure MTAS, was provided to the group including a discussion of the anticipated changes for Phase 1 of the project.

Technical design and specifications

The group was walked through the technical design of the proposed updates to the trust return including the new schedule.

Phase 2 – design and scope focus

The group was presented with more detail on Phase 2 changes – design and scope focus with themes from previous DSP focus group sessions.

Group discussion

The group would like to see how the statement of distribution will map to the trust income schedule in the Business Implementation Guide (BIG).

There was discussion around the complexities of the CGT requirements and process for the new service.
